Neighbors:

This is an update on current development activity in our area:

1. Median construction on Hwy 78 is on schedule, all the way to Killian Hill already. The entire project completion date is Nov. 2009, when one will be able to drive from East Park Place to 124 in Snellville without encountering a red light (as long as one drives the speed limit). The project includes light synchronization as well as median construction and landscaping improvements. Landscape planting will be done this winter and next fall.

2. The Hwy 78 CID board hired an economic manager, David Stedman from Texas. Contact David Stedman at dstedman@evermorecid.org or 770-979-5800 with any concerns. With the passing of the TAD referendum Nov. 4, the Highway 78 CID board is considering applying for three TADS along Hwy 78. For those new to the concept, a TAD = tax allocation district, of which the most successful has been Atlantic Station downtown. Park Place is one of the areas, perhaps THE foremost area, under consideration for a TAD.

3. Currently, the road project which will link Rockbridge & Davis Road (Sharp Trail) is in the engineering/planning phase, paid for by SPLOST funds. This is the road which is now barricaded at the traffic light near Best Buy. The plan is to create an alternate route to get from Rockbridge Road to Hwy 78 (at the light at the Frontera restaurant, in front of Stone Mtn. Toyota).

4. Misc: --The sidewalk project, paid for by SPLOST funds, around Park Place was to be completed by Halloween. It appears to be done. --No new rezoning (for a 3 story hotel or modification) at West Park Pl. and Rockbridge has been proposed yet. --The Park Place association is planning to hire a patrolling security force for the Park Place area. I do not know how the expense will be paid (CID vs. businesses), but it will be welcome by all.
